The Park District offers about 850 recreation programs each year, and is proud of its reputation for strong customer service and its leadership in conservation and preservation of natural resources.

Wheaton is proud of its forest preserves, each of which offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Danada Forest Preserve, on the south side of Wheaton, houses the Danada House and an equestrian center and offers many activities such as hay and sleigh rides, equestrian classes and the annual Danada Fall Festival. Danada House is a favorite gathering place for dinners, meetings and weddings. Adjacent to Danada Forest Preserve is Herrick Lake, which offers a beautiful atmosphere for nature hikes, picnics or fishing. Several Forest Preserve bike paths connect to the Illinois Prairie Path, which is a treasure for bikers, runners and hikers. The Prairie Path, constructed on old railroad beds, extends throughout Northern Illinois.

Rice Pool & Water Park offers two body flume slides, one tube slide, three diving boards, awaterfall, lap swimming, a wide variety of concessions, a sand play area, two volleyball coutrs, one tetherball area, a sunbathing area, and is fully accessible for the disabled. Northside Family Aquatic Center offers lap swimming, a diving board, a drop slide, a sand play area, two sand volleyball courts, a sunbathing area, and a wide variety of concessions. Pool passes are available to residents or visitors may pay a daily fee.

This park district hub of activity features a gymnasium and indoor track, Parks Plus Fitness Center, classrooms, six multi-use rooms available for group rental, one small meeting room for rental, a tot lot, public washrooms, parking for 600 cars and racks for 12 bicycles. The 122,000-square-foot building sits adjacent to Rice Pool & Water Park and is accessible for persons with disabilities.

Cosley Zoo was recently granted official accreditation by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, which was founded in 1924 and currently represents 181 accredited zoos and aquariums in North America. A trip to Cosley offers visitors a chance to get up close to a large variety of domestic farm animals and native Illinoise wildlife. You will see cows, horses, sheep, goats, llamas, deer, birds, raccoons, rabbits, chickens, pigs, birds of prey, coyotes, burro, and foxes. Cosley Zoo provides paved pathways, which are accessible for strollers and persons with disabilities. Cosley Zoo offers various educational programs for all ages and outreach programs for schools and other groups. Visitors can also participate in an animal adoption program which helps sponsor the care of the zoo's animals.

Set on 221 acres of beautiful wooded land, Arrowhead Golf Club offers 27 completely renovated holes of challenging golf and a learning center/driving range which is open in early spring. Arrowhead's ProShop offers a complete stock for all your golfing needs, including clubs, shoes, and clothing. Country Tavern Food & Spirits overlooks the golf course and offers a tantalizing variety of menu choices sure to please every appetite. Timberview banquet facilities can accommodate groups up to 300 persons, and are available for wedding parties, meetings, showers, fashion shows, family gatherings, and other special occasions. Arrowhead also offers groomed trails, rental equipment, group lessons, and pary facilities for cross-country skiers.

Lincoln Marsh Natural Area

The Lincoln Marsh Natural Area, a 135-acres of respite from the hustle and bustle of traffic and commerce. Prairies, woodlands, and savannas surround open water marsh areas that supply diverse habitat to more than 300 species of prairie and wetland plants and animals. Wildlife includes white-tailed deer, red fox, mink, owls, muskrats, birds, and waterfowl. Thousands of people visit the marsh each year for programs, bird watching, hiking biking, cross-country skiing, or a quiet picnic. Community groups and schools visit the marsh for an infinite variety of educational activities.

The Senior Center in Memorial Park is home to the park district Retired Citizens Program for persons 55 and over. The Rathje Park building in Rathje Park houses many preschool programs throughout the year.
